Are all due next Monday.
Students will need a show box or similar sized box for their diarama next week. We have started our new unit where students, in pairs, will study a francophone country with the goal of reviewing all our previously learned vocabulary like food, clothing, sports, etc. Their final project will be a 'foire francophone' a 'Francophone Fair.' Students are encouraged not to use Wikipedia, but instead sites like www.britannica.com (Encyclopedia Britannica). We are coming to the end of our unit on sports and students will soon be interviewing and being interviewed in their final project!
We will do a little music and after Christmas, we have a fabulous new unit called 'Mon monde francophone.' As some of you might be aware, I have the chance to meet with my fellow IF teachers a couple times a year. We have been working hard on numerous things. Last year we focused on an assessment method, which is the now-familiar grid for speaking/listening and writing/reading that you have seen before and will see again. We are looking at the program to see what works in the grade 6 level to see how we can bring that into the grade 7 level. IF works very much with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The CEFR developed an exam, the DELF, years ago that assessed the CEFR's important skills. Since IF works in harmony with the CEFR, it is our intention to bring DELF into our program as well (in the future). What this means is that when we look at the grade 7 units (like robots), we see that they do not fit with the principles of IF or CEFR or DELF. They are not based on useful, every day language. There is also little opportunity for continually reviewing and reusing already learned themes (food, clothes, etc.). As teachers, we are starting an Inquiry project for these reasons (as you may have seen on the green survey sent home). So, it's with excitement that I announce our new unit, developed in collaboration with IF teachers in this district! I cannot wait! :) Though we continue to work towards our final project, interviewing a famous athlete, we are pausing to work with tools like www.bonpatron.com to learn how to better proof-read our work.
We continue to work in class towards our final unit project: interviewing a celebrity athlete!
Our celebrity athletes will be OURSELVES in 15 years! Each students is making up an imaginary biography for themselves. They are choosing which sport they wish to be famous in in 15 years. They are then sharing this information with a partner. Their partner will be the person who will 'interview' them! It is a fun an exciting project. Students are needing to think outside their box, so-to-speak, to imagine themselves in 15 years time as a famous athlete. What personality and character traits have they learned because of their sport? What medals and trophies have they won? Now that they're famous, what projects are they involved in (helping youth, etc). Our final project in our sports unit will be to imagine ourselves 15 years in the future as a successful athlete in 1 sport! Students will not only need to prepare their biographies, but will need to research the athlete they will interview (students will be paired up).
Students need to decide which sport they want to do tonight. |
