Last night was a success, and that success is attributed to my fabulous students and their parents! I greatly enjoyed meeting all of the parents! I was very happy to hear my students introduce us in French! Bravo!

Thursday, September 27 from 7:00 - 8:00. I can't wait to meet my students' parents! :) This will be a great opportunity for your child to show you our classroom and some work that has been done!
All students need to bring a photo that has all the members of the immediate family (mom, dad, brothers, sisters). This is to facilitate discussions on physical traits (hair colour, height, etc.). The picture can be older and if necessary students can bring more than one if you do not have one with all the family together.
If students did not finish their small family tree today in class, they need to finish it for homework. Student picture orders are due by Friday, September 28. The order forms will come home today. Just a reminder for the Immunization forms. Also, at the end of our current unit, "Moi," students will need two cereal boxes. FROM: Canadian Parents for French - Delta Chapter
LET YOUR FRANCOPHILE CHILD BE AMONG THE FIRST TO SEE "IT" An Out-Of-This-World Cool Experience For French Loving Youth Only! As a parent of a francophile child (any age), you are invited at 4PM Saturday September 29th to join us with your children at Space Launch Canada (Green College - UBC) for an exclusive preview of an exciting new Canadian satellite concept and an inspirational French speech about Canada's space science (geared to the youth). The general public does not get to see what the cool new satellite will look like until the official unveiling event on October 2nd! But Space Launch Canada is offering our youth this intellectual treat to reward them for their interest in French, and convey to them the educational message that practicing bilingualism in our country is an eloquent act of patriotism. BACKGROUND: Space Launch Canada is commemorating Canada's first ever satellite (the Alouette 1, launched on September 29 1962 from California) by unveiling an inspirational new Canadian satellite concept for the future, and by continuing to push for Canada to launch into outer space from British Columbia! (Check TV and Radio clips on http://www.SpaceLaunch.cawww.SpaceLaunch.ca). The Green College site is among the most beautiful on UBC campus, close to Spanish Banks beaches and to the Anthropology Museum, as you can see by Googling this Green College location: #144-6201 Cecil Green Park Road, University of British Columbia Campus, Vancouver PARKING/TRANSIT: There is paid parking just across Marine Drive from Green College. Public transit to UBC is plentiful. But the right bus route depends on where you are coming from, at what time, etc. Use Translink's Trip Planner to plan your bus trip. Again, please look up Green College - UBC on Google Maps. Bonne chance! The space activity itself (about an hour) will consist of taking an exclusive peek at a model of the new satellite concept (and promising not to "tell" until October 2nd!) and listening to the youth-oriented French address by the Space Launch Canada project director. Outside of that main activity, you can easily plan a great outing with the kids taking advantage of the nearby beaches, museums, etc. The event is FREE, but for access you MUST RSVP to mailto:[email protected][email protected], as soon as possible, as space is limited. Merci beaucoup! This will be "heavenly" fun and very inspiring for parents and children alike. So, we hope you won't be too late to RSVP :) The Canadian Parents for French - Delta Chapter ********************************************************************** There is paid parking just across Marine Drive from Green College. Again, please look up Green College - UBC on Google Maps. Bonne chance! Students have a draft copy of a basic family tree. They need to fill in the information for grandparents and great grandparents (where you know the information. If you do not know all the dates/names, that is okay. Do the best you can :).). This information includes full names, birthdates and marriage dates. Students need their parents, aunts and uncles, first cousins, grand parents and great grandparents.
Here is some useful vocabulary as a reference: mon père, mon beau-père, ma mère, ma belle-mère, mon frère, mon demi-frère, mon beau frère ma sœur, ma demi-sœur, ma belle sœur mon oncle ma tante mon cousin ma cousine mon grand-père ma grand-mère mon neveu ma nièce mon arrière-grand-père mon arrière-grand-mère The Grade 6 Immunization forms went home today. Please read all the instructions and fill out all the forms. I request that forms be back on Friday, tomorrow, but realize that for some parents that will not be possible. As the nurse is coming back next week, I hope to have all forms back on Tuesday morning so that I can give her a complete class set.
As Monday is a Pro-D, the Portfolio is due Tuesday. In preparation for some family trees (un arbre généalogique), students need to find the full name and birthdays and ages of all of their immediate family members (father, mother, brothers, sisters). For your information, students will be doing a larger family tree later that will include aunts, uncles and grandparents! They will need birthdates and marriage dates to fill in their tree.
The finished Portfolio will be due at the start of the day on Monday.
Individual Student Photos are tomorrow. So, remember, wear your best and SMILE! Also, the Running Shoe is due tomorrow, as well as two words for each letter of the alphabet A - Z.
The 3-D name on the portfolio will be due Wednesday morning (drawn and coloured). |
