I wish all of my students and their families a Very Merry Christmas and Holiday season!!

I wish to thank ALL of you, parents and students alike, for being so patient with my seemingly never-ending illnesses. I also wish to assure you that this is not normal for me. I have never been sick for so long, before. There truly is a nasty bug (or ten!) floating around this fall!
I truly love my job - I love that I get to wake up every morning and come work with your children! It is a blessing, and one I cherish. So, while I cannot control when I get sick, please know how much I love your children and my job. Mille grazie! (While not French, I do love Italian...) ;) As some of you are aware, and as I have explained in my previous post, I have begun to introduce a small amount of our first Science unit: Diversity of Life.
This project is due next Tuesday, December 18. As a strategy to keep all students on task and on time, I am asking that 1/5 of the project be completed each day, with the first fifth due tomorrow, Wednesday, December 12. Students are being asked to create five 'crowns' to represent the 'five' animal kingdoms. When displayed properly, they will look very good in the hallways. I invite you to come see them when they are finished! As usual, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. As you are all aware, the first five months of Intensive French focus on the teaching of French, which means that in February, Science, Social Studies and Art are introduced.
However, through experience, I have realized that an abrupt transition from one week to the next of all French to one hour of French a day with Science, Social Studies and Art can be a very difficult transition. Over the past few years, I have found that introducing Science and Social Studies very slowly and in limited amounts, starting in December, really help with the transition. Have no worries, however, that your child will lose instruction time in French. Just as I gradually add subjects to the day, I will gradually reduce the amount of French instructional time from all day to one hour. I have found that this method creates a more positive and less stressful Term Two. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me! The Interviews take place Wednesday and Thursday. I notice many parents have booked times to see me. I look forward to seeing you all!
Div. 3 will celebrate the holidays with a class party, Thursday, November 20 in the afternoon. Students are requested to bring something to share. Everyone shares and everyone participates! I respectfully request that only homemade baked goods be brought to school, or healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables. I consistently want my students thinking about what they eat, so I do request that even at parties, healthy food is consumed. Store-bought goods often have unpronounceable ingredients and items like chips are very unhealthy. As usual, no pop please.
I hope this is acceptable to all. If you ever have any questions, never hesitate to ask! :) |
