Information about the Three-Way Conference will be sent home soon. For your planning purposes, please find attached (available to download) a Word Doc that has my schedule of times available for the conferences. Each conference is 20 min. Both student and parent(s) will need to attend (if at all possible). You will able to contact the school NEXT WEEK to book a time slot. Please do not call before. Thank you. (I'm jumping the gun by publishing this.) I have often noted, both to myself and to my class, that this is an AMAZING group of students. So, I shouldn't have been surprised when most everyone wanted to make a dream house out of boxes. Not only did they want to make a house out of boxes, they wanted to make BIG houses! I can only applaud their energy and attitude!
We continue to work on the houses, but I have told students they should be prepared to work at home this weekend. I will expect that the entire interior of the house will be finished (floors glued/taped down, wall paper, windows....). Furniture and labels can be done next week. We have begun to discuss our daily routines in French. This will continue over the next few weeks. We have also begun to learn the song, "Libérée, Délivrée" for the Christmas concert, which will be at 1:00 p.m. December 18. Finally, I will soon post the times in a word document here on my site of the times I will be available for the three-way conference this term. Keep watching for more news.... !!! :) We have finished our Family Unit and the students' albums are on display in the front display case. I'm very proud of the work they have done! As of yet, I have no specific due date for the house. This is only my second time doing this particular project and I've never had so many students want to build an actual house. I need to see how long they might require. Of course there will be work needed to be done at home. Definitely the project will finish before Christmas. I'm thinking about three more weeks, but again, that date could change depending on what I see my students need as they construct houses from nothing. The objectives of this unit, other than building the house, are learning all the house vocab and talking about our daily routines. We have just begun the vocab for this unit and will begin discussing daily routines next week. Students do not have to build a house. I have left it up to their imagination as to how to make their dream house. Some will draw two floors from a "bird's eye view." All houses need furniture and labels for everything. The only method I have banned from using is Minecraft as students can't get French labels on this program. The house part is simply a fun way to engage the students in wanting to talk about their house and the rooms in it and how their daily routine goes in it. Students will share their houses with other students at the end of the unit. All writing and colouring is due Wednesday, November 12. We will glue the book together IN CLASS.
