We have finished our Family Unit and the students' albums are on display in the front display case. I'm very proud of the work they have done!
As of yet, I have no specific due date for the house. This is only my second time doing this particular project and I've never had so many students want to build an actual house. I need to see how long they might require. Of course there will be work needed to be done at home. Definitely the project will finish before Christmas. I'm thinking about three more weeks, but again, that date could change depending on what I see my students need as they construct houses from nothing.
The objectives of this unit, other than building the house, are learning all the house vocab and talking about our daily routines.
We have just begun the vocab for this unit and will begin discussing daily routines next week. Students do not have to build a house. I have left it up to their imagination as to how to make their dream house. Some will draw two floors from a "bird's eye view." All houses need furniture and labels for everything. The only method I have banned from using is Minecraft as students can't get French labels on this program.
The house part is simply a fun way to engage the students in wanting to talk about their house and the rooms in it and how their daily routine goes in it. Students will share their houses with other students at the end of the unit.
