To ohelp students complete page 5 of Social Studies, a world map can be found at:
http://www.zonu.com/images/0X0/2009-11-06-10868/Mapa-Politico-del-Mundo.png For Monday, students also need their historical clothing images, as well as their typed, good copy of their suitcase clothes. Ocean Cliff has an amazing opportunity! All our classes will be visted by Vancouver artist, Joanne Howard. She will be sharing her expertise with all the classes.
In order to fund the cost of this incredible program, a donation of $6 is kindly requested to help cover the cost of materials and instruction. A letter is going home today. Students need to begin to collect, and keep, images of all the various items of clothing that they would take on a vacation. They will be using this to 'fill a suitcase' for their dream vacation. So, if they dream of somewhere sunny, they will need summer clothes. If they dream of somewhere cold, they will need winter clothes. They will need numerous styles of the same piece of clothing. (For example, do we ever only pack one t-shirt?) These images are due Monday, January 21.
Also, students will need to get six different outfits to glue on cards that they were given today. It is for a game in French. The cards are 9cm x 5.5cm, so the images of outfits needs to fit on those clothes. The outfits should be mixed. Example, boys should not get images soley of boys clothing and vice versa. These images are due Friday, January 18. Internet and/or magazines can be used. Ms. Molzahn is our new English and H&C teacher. Her website is:
msmolzahn.weebly.com Students need to bring five to seven items each of clothing. I can be anything, for girls or boys, so long as it will possibly fit an 11 year old (adult clothing will work, too).
We will use these for a game and the clothes will be at school for a few days. I would suggest perhaps older clothing. Hats and accessories are also needed! :) Please place all items of clothings in one large bag with your family name written on the bag. ALso, students need to take five minutes and write a list of their items of clothing, including colour and size, as the clothing could get mixed up. Students are taking home a reverse permission letter today regarding the BC School Fruit and Vegetable Nutritional Program.
The permission letter ONLY needs to be returned to the school if you do NOT wish your child to participate and/or if you wish to advise the school of any allergies. The grade 7 play is next week! This is a great opportunity to see how hard these students have worked! Our grade 6 students are looking forward to their chance next year, and it would be great for them to experience the play themselves!
The library will be transformed into a delicous Tea Shop, featuring home baked goods like pies and cakes! Students have spent this week working in pairs on a project demonstrating how a particular animal (chosen by them) has adapted well to it's environment. Students are progressing well and the project is due Monday.
All Ocean Cliff students will be participating in this exciting program. Funded by the BC Ministry of Health, students will gain awareness of the health benefits of fruits and vegetables and the safe handling practices of fruit and vegetable snacks. These LOCAL fruits and vegetables will be consumed in class to encourage the practice of eating healthy snacks.
Fast facts: 1) 7 out of 10 4 - 8 year olds do not eat the minimum requirement of 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day. 2) 62% of girls and 68% of boys between 9 - 13 years of age to not meet the minimum servings of fruit and vegetables each day. *The fruits and veggies offered include: sliced or whole apples, blueberries, carrots, cucumbers, grapes, kiwifruit, Mandarin oranges, peaches, sliced or whole pears, peppers, plums, sugar snap peas, and tomatoes.
