We will NOT start this project for at least a few weeks (unless this class progresses faster than I anticipate, which they may do. They have come with a good prior knowledge of French :) ), but I realize that it can take time to gather enough information about a family for a family tree. Sometimes parents need to phone their parents or talk to other family members, so I want to provide ample time to gather this information.
Students will do a family three that includes their own family (mother, father, brother(s), sister(s) and any step siblings). They will need all their aunts/uncles and first cousins. They will need all four of their grandparents (no great aunts or uncles) and all 8 of their great grandparents. Birth dates, death dates and marriage dates are all appreciated. I fully understand that some of this information may have been lost to time. If you are unable to obtain a name or a date of a grand parent or great grandparent, etc, that is ok. Just do your best to get the most possible. Again, I fully understand that some families may not be able to fill in all these blanks. :) In the past, my students have really enjoyed this project because often they do learn something about their family they did not know before. Students need to review the class expectations with their parents and have a parent/guardian sign and date it. This is due tomorrow.
Students also need a t-shirt for gym (we will change into and out of them for gym). They need runners for gym and need to have appropriate, breathable clothing (may need to bring a pair of shorts if they come in a skirt or jeans). I hope all students can have their 15 dividers by Monday. :) Teachers at OC now have voicemail. I respectfully request that if you cannot reach me by phone, please, instead, email me. Email is more efficient since I don't have to wait till the next day to answer your question. :)
Thank you. I must, once again, apologize for the order mix-ups. I am convinced that my order was mixed up with someone else's. Students did not receive the 3 packs of 5 dividers (total 15) but did receive wax crayons, which I have never asked for, for grade 6 students.
Students need 15 dividers. All students need a water bottle, so they can sip when they need. All students who did not finish their name tag today, need to finish it for tomorrow. I hope all students will have some form of inside shoes tomorrow, even if they're not runners for gym. It is raining! Students should all be prepared to be outside at recess and lunch in any weather. :) It is finally here! La rentrée scolaire!!
I cannot wait to welcome back all my old students and I am thrilled to meet all my new students! Parents, I apologize for the different class lists. I think in the confusion last year, there were some mistakes. Also, some students today were handed old lists. However, we will make it work! A few things to note. All my students need to please have a water bottle with them at school, every day. Also, in order to make our new carpets last for decades, I have an 'in school' shoe policy. These will be shoes (not sandals or flip flops) that will only be worn inside the class and school. This policy really helped keep the class clean last year! I recommend your 'in school' shoes be runners so they can be used in gym class. That way, we can also help keep our gym, and hallways, clean. If you have not already done so, please purchase a dictionary. There are many different kinds and they will all work (so long as there is no Québec flag on it. That means that only Québecois vocab is in the dictionary, and I teach students both types of French), but over the years I have learned that the Collins Easy French in colour works the best as it is the most user friendly. I can't help but be optimistic with talks lasting all weekend between the government and the BCTF. When school does start (soon, I dearly hope), students will need drawing/colouring supplies and their PAPER (not iPod/iPhone) dictionaries. :) I'm so excited to see you all!!!! :) I don't know if any of you are checking this website. If you are, I want to say that I miss all of you and was looking forward to hearing about your summers. I, like all teachers I believe, want nothing more than to be back in the classroom with you. I love my job because I get to come into our wonderful school and work with outstanding people like yourselves. I miss you all and hope to see you soon! |
