Yesterday, I spent the day with other teachers in Surrey who also teach IF. We are also discussing how we can better communicate student achievements to parents.
What we realized, and the teachers at this school, too, was that this will be a many years'-long journey. There are hundreds of steps in changing this entire system of reporting to parents and involving them and the students in understanding student learning. We, however, are on step 0.3. :)
We are all in agreement that perhaps we should go a little more slowly and do this well, rather than rush. I am very excited about the possibilities that exist. However, I do agree that we should do things well, which does not necessarily mean quickly.
In any case, as I said it is an on-going issue. I think I will use the current reports for everything except French, for now. Grade 6 French, that is. I am focusing on the Grade 6 level.
I am working on the French assessment :)
