As we all know, this is a new process of reporting on student progress.
I think the important thing to communicate to students and parents is that the new Pilot Program for reporting is about COMMUNICATING more. Whether or not letter grades are used, this is an opportunity to change how we communicate students' learning.
Vitally important to me, is having students involved in thinking about their own learning.
Every two weeks, students will do a SELF evaluation on their French Skills. Every other week, they will do a Work Habits SELF evaluation. I stress that these are SELF evaluations. I am continuing to work, think on and manage our time for all of this. It is my intention to read/discuss each evaluation before it goes home, of course. However, this is still a student's self-evaluation. Students are very observant, and once they fully understand the evaluations, they will be accurate in evaluating themselves and their skills. Our kids are wonderful, aren't they? :)
Since I was sick Friday, the French Evaluations are coming home today. Some students brought them home over the weekend, but in case you are curious, they are coming home today as I have discussed with each student their self evaluations. Silent Reading seems a good time to do this.
I think students will do a unit evaluation for Socials and Science, rather than weekly evaluations.
